Service and Immersion Break Trips

St. Thomas Aquinas frequently offers several options for service and immersion trips around the country and, at times, internationally.  We try very hard to keep these trips affordable. Click here for application.  Application deadline is 11:59pm, Wednesday, November 30, 2016. Applications are not considered complete until a $150 deposit has been received. Deposits may be made in cash or by check in the parish office, Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. On-line deposits are accepted, however a 5% charge is added to the total to cover processing fees. In 2017, the trips include:

Spring Break Trips

___ Appalachia, Williamsburg, KY. March 10-19, 2017.  Overnight in Peoria, IL on both ends of the trip. Stay at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Williamsburg.  Do local home repair projects, work at thrift store, experience life and culture of Appalachia.  May include visit to Cumberland Falls for hiking. Anticipated out of pocket cost per participant, $190.

___ Brother David Darst Center, Chicago, IL.  March 11-18, 2017.  Radical hospitality with the poor and needy. Service and immersion projects that help dispel myths about hunger and homelessness and give tools to understand underlying issues. May include time off to enjoy Chicago sights and culture. Anticipated out of pocket cost per participant, $220.

___ Monastic Experience, Conception/Clyde, MO.  March 12-17, 2017.  Visit men’s and women’s Benedictine communities to learn about Monastic life and ministries. This trip may not involve a great deal of service, but more of an immersion into types of monasticism ranging from contemplative to apostolic life and ministry. Anticipated out of pocket cost per participant, $175.

___ The Pilgrimage, Washington, DC. March 11-18, 2017.  Fly to DC, and then use public transportation to experience the inner workings of our nation’s capitol at the street level.  Serve in a variety of hunger and homeless service programs, hear from people who have lived homeless, and learn how to approach legislative advocacy.  May include a free morning or afternoon to visit the Holocaust Museum and/or the Capitol Mall. Anticipated out of pocket cost per participant, $400.

___ San Isidro, Nicaragua. March 10-20, 2017. This trip requires travel on the Friday before and the Monday after spring break. In partnership with EOS, International, immerse yourself in Nicaraguan culture including home stays, learning about alternative technologies that improve lives, and experience local parish life. May include weekend trips to an ecological reserve and a beach. Estimated out of pocket cost per participant, $820.
